- Brian Sullivan (Falcon Applications)
Coming Soon.

Brian Sullivan is a developer analyst for Falcon Applications, LLC in Shreveport, LA. He got his start in programming maintaining legacy mainframe applications in COBOL at a large trucking company, but quickly realized he needed to find a more productive environment in order to stay sane. He jumped at the opportunity to help transition some of those COBOL applications to .NET, and he hasn’t looked back since. He has been working with Microsoft technologies for about 5 years, and is interested in increasing the exposure of agile techniques and methodologies in the Microsoft developer community. He currently runs the Shreveport .NET User Group and speaks frequently at local user groups and regional conferences. Brian is a graduate of Harding University in Searcy, AR.

Main Presentation:

Why Data Warehousing

- Kristen Reeves (Geocent)
This presentation will serve as an introduction into the world of Data Warehousing. We will start by covering the key characteristics and concepts of a Data Warehouse as well as go over the differences between a Warehouse and transactional Database Management System. We will then go into the internal design and processes involved in building an efficient Data Warehouse. We will end by discussing why Data Warehouses are useful to a business and how a business can leverage the key information stored to drive future business decisions.

Kristen Reeves – After graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University with a B.S in Computer Science and an MBA (Information Systems concentration), I went straight into the Data Warehousing field. For five years I worked with Revenue Solutions, Inc. where we provided data warehousing solutions to revenue agencies. Within this time I provided consulting to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue located in Boston, MA as well as the Georgia Department of Revenue located in Atlanta, GA. I recently became employed by Geocent, where I am providing database development skills.

News Release: Louisiana Technology Park to Begin Hosting Baton Rouge Area Technology User Groups

April 3, 2012—For immediate release

Four Baton Rouge area tech user groups are relocating their monthly meetings to the Louisiana Technology Park. The addition of new meetups further solidifies the Tech Park’s connection to the growing Baton Rouge startup and tech community.

“We actively sought out the groups as a way to add to the synergy we already have with our current companies and software developers,” said Tech Park executive director, Stephen Loy.

Beginning April 11th, from 5:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. the Baton Rouge SQL Server User Group(BRSSUG), Baton Rouge .NET User Group (BRDNUG), Baton Rouge IT Pro User Group(BRITPRO) and Baton Rouge Windows Phone User Group (BRWPUG) will meet at the Park. Three of the groups previously met at LSU’s Tureaud Hall, while the Windows Phone group traditionally met at Sparkhound.

Tech meetups provide an opportunity to network with peers, hear from national and local speakers on new developments in technology and industry trends, share experiences, and work out shared problems. The meetings are free and open to users, administrators, developers, and students interested in the technologies and platforms.

“With a focus on technology and the tech community, newly renovated facilities and a population of attendees built-in, the Tech Park is going to be a great host for our monthly meetings,” said William Assaf, president of the SQL User Group.

For more information on the groups, you can visit their respective websites: brdnug.org, brssug.org, britprosug.com, and brwpug.org.

Main Presentation:

What Software Developers can Learn from Forrest Gump

- Keith Elder (Microsoft MVP)
In this session we’ll take a break from the mind-melting technology deep-dives and focus on the other skills developers need commonly referred to as “Soft Skills”. We’ll use one of the greatest characters ever to grace the silver screen, Forrest Gump, as the back drop to this talk. There are many things we can learn from Forrest like how to communicate simpler to humans as well as great life lessons we often forget. After attending this session you’ll walk away with a set of tips, guidelines and principles such as how to better communicate with non-developers based on scientific study, the value of providing value, how to make those around you comfortable, and how to leverage techniques in conversation used by successful salesmen.

Keith Elder is the co-host of the popular online technology podcast Deep Fried Bytes. He is also a Director of Software Engineering at Quicken Loans, the nation’s largest online mortgage lender based in Detroit, MI and is the founder of the Hattiesburg, MS .Net User Group called Hub City NUG. Keith is an experienced technologist, systems administrator, software engineer, speaker, trainer and all around geek.

As an experienced educator, trainer and speaker he has logged thousands of hours in front of the classroom teaching students of varying ages from the 6th grade to the college level. He has trained countless developers from various business sectors ranging from top auto manufactures, fortune 500 companies and Universities.

As a Microsoft MVP he speaks throughout the United States at major technical conferences, Code Camps, and .Net User Groups. Keith’s ability to explain complex topics with a friendly common sense southern attitude make him a highly regarded speaker at technical conferences. You can read more about Keith’s interests, hobbies, rants and raves on his blog at http://keithelder.net/.
