Main Presentation:
Node.js – Jeremy Beckham

Node.js is a server-side JavaScript environment that uses an asynchronous event-driven model. This allows Node.js to get excellent performance based on the architectures of many Internet applications. Node’s goal is to provide an easy way to build scalable network programs. This is in contrast to today’s more common concurrency model where OS threads are employed. Thread-based networking is relatively inefficient and very difficult to use. HTTP is a first class protocol in Node. Node’s HTTP library has grown out of the author’s experiences developing and working with web servers.

Jeremy Beckham is a senior developer at Envoc.

Lightning Round:
Understanding CDN’s (Content Delivery Networks) and their effect on your web projects – Calvin Fabre (Director of Client Education at Envoc)

Using a CDN can really cut the amount of bandwidth your web server requires. In fact, it can reduce the load on your web server while speeding up the browsing experience for your users or visitors. Come see how Push and Pull CDN’s can make you be the next office hero. I promise No death by PowerPoint.

Calvin Fabre currently serves as Director of Client Education of Envōc (pronounced “Invoke”), a Louisiana-based corporate software development firm. He founded Envōc in 1997 with the goal of writing software specifically tailored for a business’s unique needs, in short – “software you can’t buy off the shelf.” He tries to keep up with the rest of the software development team that creates corporate dashboards, portals, and mobile applications for businesses that integrate databases and other systems. While Calvin is an Aquarius, he is nothing like Brian Rigsby. He does enjoy talking to his wife on the phone and long walks on the beach.

Agenda
